If I can ever get off the phone taking reports and away from this computer I'd go fishing. Monster Bluesfish came in to the suds North of Gillikins and at gillikins a few minutes ago. All fish were caught on poppers, swimmers and metal. Hopefully we'll be able to get out soon as I wanted to two hours ago. Guppie
Hi Guys & Gals. I had no intentions of posting this tournament for the simple reason, many many anglers who have spent lots of money all fluke season only to have to release their catch, We were all told that there was a shortage on fluke?? But commercial netters can keep fish 14 1/2 ",
Every year they give us a cut off day early, just in time for the big keeper fluke to start, and now just for the tournament your allowed to keep 8 fluke , only if your in the tournament, this should have been for all of NJ anglers along the shore line.
I spend many days at Island Beach State Park watching anglers after the cut off day hooking up with some nice big fatties and having to release them.. An now for the Governors tournament you can keep 8 as long as you pay to get in to the tournament?? something is wrong with the system.
Sounds like to me if every one joins the tournament every one cane keep 8 fluke Sunday, not a bad deal., just another money making deal for the great state of NJ.
I am happy for all the anglers who fish the tournament, at least some will be able to catch and keep their fluke catch, it still makes me wonder about all these regulations?
getting back to the fishing reports, many stripers are still being caught, most in the 27.9 " range, again most throw back with a few keppers. The wind is blowing west at about 15-20, not bad the wind is behind you, make it easier to cast further out .
Clams seems to be your best bet for producing stripers, with this west wind it should halp your casting distance a lot.
For those who like to plug, this west wind will help as well.
Good Luck To All.
Guppie
I want you all to know , every thing I put on these reports are as accurate as one can be, I do my home work before I post on all issues. Guppie & Don

Subj: Surf Tournament Sunday at Island Beach State Park
The NJ DEP Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds all saltwater anglers that the annual Governor's Surf Fishing Tournament is this Sunday, Oct. 5 at Island Beach State Park. Walk-in registration is welcome and opens at 5:00 a.m. at Pavilion #1. Fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. and winds up at 1:00 p.m. with the Governor's Trophy and other prizes awarded at 2:00 p.m. There are prizes for eight species in a number of categories (male, female, youth, etc.).
Participants should note that although the regular fluke season closed on September 7, approval was obtained from the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission for Governor's Surf Fishing Tournament participants to keep legal sized fluke (8 at 18") on the day of the tournament.
Participants are asked to record all fluke catches on a survey form that will be provided when they register for the tournament.
